A sad inditement...

So as expected, 55% of Australians voted to keep the 'Her Majesty' Elizabeth II as the figure head of our great nation. Can't wait to see the headlines about it from around the world. One of the most rapidly mature nations in the world has chosen to continue to support the primitive concept that the descendant of someone who beat the crap out of some other people many many years ago should be given praise as if they themselves did something to deserve power. Yes, I can be boring when I get like this...

I almost had a large argument with my newest flatmate over this today. I found out she voted 'No'/'No' because "she doesn't care". I was most impressed with how well I contained my rage and quickly walked away with the explanation that I would otherwise 'get started'. Instead I will quickly do that here...

If someone (and there were MANY who were like her) doesn't care about whether we become a republic or not, then shouldn't they vote 'Yes' and in doing so, give the future of this country to the people who really do care? That is it, plain and simple, I don't think much supportive argument is warranted - most people reading this won't need convincing of my viewpoint as I'm sure they share it.

Last night there were many interesting things that took place. A friend had a farewell party last night which was a nice gathering of some souls I had not bumped into in quite a long time. That was followed by the last ever warehouse party, and the Rugby World Cup victory over the rather vicious French. All I could think was how great it would have been for Eales to have been collecting the trophy from the Queen knowing she had bee ousted from our nation a few hours before the game. Once again, a very sad sigh...

Since early this morning, after watching the top bit of the charts on Rage, I have the rather awful song 'Blue' in my head - or perhaps it was the further 3 times I saw it today on Channel [V] after never having seen it before. Looking at it optimistically, it is a song that has really made me realise that if I put some work into it, I could realistically create a piece of techno music that could make it commercially.

If I haven't mentioned this before, I have now realised that post-production really is my cup of tea. Sound Design and both Video & Sound Editing. I really love it. It's nice to have some hard core direction now.

Tomorrow begins the preparation process for Contact 2000. Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to go and check out the new Fox Studios. A bit of a wander around the shops followed by the 3pm advanced screening of 'Fight Club' in the new cinema complex. Should be a nice afternoon in what I hope will be a place that will feature in my working life in years to come.

With focus and vigilance, I have no doubts...
